Role Overview – Structural Concrete Engineer | Reinforced Concrete Design & Sustainable Structures

We are seeking a proactive and expert Structural Concrete Engineer to join our expanding team at SSE. You will contribute specialist knowledge in reinforced concrete structure design, working on a diverse range of high-rise, commercial, and essential infrastructure developments. Main Responsibilities – Structural Concrete Analysis, Detailing & Project Delivery

• Lead and support the design, analysis, and detailing of reinforced and prestressed concrete structures, ensuring designs are safe, efficient, and compliant with Eurocodes, British Standards, and international codes.
• Produce structural calculations, reinforcement detailing, construction drawings, and digital models using advanced industry software.
• Utilise Building Information Modeling (BIM) and structural analysis tools to refine concrete solutions for constructability, cost, and environmental outcomes.
• Work collaboratively with clients, architects, and multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver coherent, buildable structural solutions.
• Participate in technical reviews, carry out site inspections, and contribute to quality assurance processes for reinforced concrete construction.
• Drive sustainability initiatives within concrete design, including low-carbon construction, responsible material selection, and life-cycle assessment.
• Prepare technical documentation, specifications, risk assessments, and reports in line with client requirements and industry best practices.
• Champion health and safety, ensuring adherence to best practice in design and construction across all project phases.

What You Bring – Structural Concrete Engineering Skills, Technical Expertise & Team Ethos

• Bachelor’s degree in Structural, Civil, or related Engineering discipline, or equivalent professional qualification.
• Proven track record of delivering reinforced concrete designs in building or infrastructure environments, preferably within a consultancy setting.
• Proficiency with design and detailing software such as Tekla Structural Designer, Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, ETABS, SAFE, or similar tools.
• Comprehensive understanding of UK and international concrete codes, reinforcement detailing, and current best construction practices.
• Ability to communicate effectively and work successfully in diverse, multidisciplinary teams to achieve shared project goals.
• Clear, confident communicator, able to engage positively with colleagues, partners, and clients at all project stages.
• Adaptable, forward-thinking, and enthusiastic about continuous professional development and emerging technologies.

• Chartered or Incorporated status, or actively working towards obtaining it with ICE or IStructE, is highly advantageous.
