Role Overview – Site Accountant for Construction & Engineering Projects

We are seeking a meticulous, proactive Site Accountant to support project financial management at SSE. This position is central to our commitment to robust financial control across our high-profile, complex construction and engineering projects. As Site Accountant, you will collaborate closely with project teams on-site and in the office, ensuring financial processes are accurate, timely, and fully compliant. Main Responsibilities – Financial Management, Cost Control & Site Accounting Reporting

• Manage all financial processes at the project site, including accounts payable/receivable, payroll coordination, and expense tracking in line with company policies.
• Prepare and review project budgets, cost reports, and forecasts; monitor actual versus planned expenditures to identify variances and support corrective action.
• Assist project managers with financial planning, cash flow management, and risk identification to optimize project profitability and delivery.
• Oversee supplier and subcontractor invoicing, ensuring accurate documentation, timely approvals, and prompt payment reconciliation.
• Maintain up-to-date records of financial transactions, contracts, and change orders, ensuring transparency and compliance with internal audit requirements.
• Support monthly and quarterly project reviews, providing detailed reports and analysis to the project and finance teams.
• Liaise with both on-site and central accounting teams to ensure consistent application of corporate and statutory financial practices.
• Champion best practices in site finance administration, seeking continual improvement in efficiency and accuracy across all accounting processes.

What You Bring – Site Accounting, Construction Finance & Analytical Expertise

• Experience as a site-based accountant, project accountant, or similar finance role within the construction, engineering, or infrastructure sectors.
• Strong understanding of project accounting, cost control, and budgeting principles relevant to construction or engineering projects.
• Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Office tools, including advanced Excel skills.
• Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to interpret financial data, produce accurate reports, and deliver practical solutions to site finance challenges.
• Well-developed organizational and time management skills, able to meet deadlines and prioritize effectively in a dynamic site environment.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, confident collaborating with construction teams, management, suppliers, and auditors.
• Detail-focused, ethical, and committed to upholding the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality.
